* Integrate dog daycare/boarding services into the shelter environment
* Allow pet acupuncturists & massage therapists to rent space on shelter property.
* Contract with independent dog walkers who get clients through shelter referrals...If a public dog daycare existed on the same property, people could drop their dogs off and pay a fee to have the dogs exercised/walked/run during the day. Perhaps the dog walkers could walk shelter dogs along with clients' dogs, as a way of practicing pack leadership & pack socialization - and exercising everyone at the same time!
* Build public ACTIVITY SPACES into shelter grounds...to facilitate cooperative HUMAN-ANIMAL recreation; and an all around fun, healthy environment. The public would pay a membership or daily fee to enjoy these activity parks, which would directly support the shelter's rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
* Run a retail shop whose profits would benefit the shelter; sell "Pack Tested" products by Cesar Millan, all CM teaching materials, books and DVDs, as well as other reputable training materials, dog and cat toys, healthy pet foods, treats, etc.
These are just a handful of ways that the "Shelter of the Future" can be a self-sustaining, profitable business; all while creating a progressive meeting space for the community; and a fun, positive, healthy environment for all people and animals that walk through its doors!
